Community Service Initiatives

Since this module happened during the COVID-19 pandemic, there weren't any physical initiatives being done, so we were told to do a paper instead, which we hope will help in more than one way.

And if you are interested in reading, I hope you enjoy scrolling through our journey of researching and the end-product.

Assignment 1a:
Proposal Writing

This is a proposal written to suggest what we want to research about for our research proposal, which should be an intersection between the pandemic and architecture.

Assignment 1b:
Research Writing

This is the finalized research paper for the research writing, included with the appendices of the paper, on the topic of "Spatial Designs of Accommodations and Healthcare Centres are Unprepared for the Purpose of Quarantine during the COVID-19 Pandemic and Ways Architects are Contributing".

We did not just researches on the topic, but also interviewed some practicing architects on their perspectives first-hand, which can be seen in the appendices.

Assignment 2:
Reflective Essay

In the aspects of my personal experience, abilities and development... I would say throughout the completion of assignment I was rather consistent. From following up with my team every week and setting up meetings to make sure we are all on track, to double checking some parts of the work that my teammates have done and understanding what they have done.

However, at the beginning, I have to admit i was a bit confused and blur what we have to do for the assignment, maybe due to being put into a new method of learning threw me off a bit, and we were still unsure whether our topics were right or not, therefore I definitely needed guidance from our tutor as much as i could. Slowly, after deciding on a topic and I have understood the topic, I then took the initiative, as a leader, to ask for cooperation from my group, and also try to have as many meetings as we can to keep ourselves aligned, even though i was not the best at conducting meetings, which i would say i have vastly improved throughout this assignment. Towards the end, I then took it upon myself to do a little bit more work than is needed from me due to the lack of activeness from some group mates, which I don't normally do.

In terms of being in a group project, it was honestly, a bit bumpy. At the start of the assignment, the participation and communication within our group are just nearly marvelous. We were discussing about what we can do for the chosen topic, how we should do it, and to execution of tasks distributed were also smooth. Halfway through, the cooperation and responses given became lesser and lesser, till the point that it should be very evident to everyone in the group, if not unsatisfactory. In response to that, which may be identified as a disruption, I work with the rest of my teammates who are consistent through the assignment up to that point, at one point one of them even almost took up the responsibilities of a leader and took the initiative to just start working. Other than that, i have also tried to follow up with the few of my teammates more aggressively, but to no avail.

Fortunately, nearing the submission date, the rest of us have covered quite a number of sections, so there weren't much left to do. For one of my group mates, who contacted to get an update, I explained what we have been doing and also told them their performance or attendance was rather displeasing, and that they should try to make it for the last meetings and complete the last few tasks we have for them.

Overall, I would say despite having quite a rocky journey with my group, we kept our focus on the assignment submission, and did it adequately and timely. I also tried my best to keep our relationship harmonious despite the obstacles caused.

Fin.
